Experiment : Transplanting while splitting

It is winter here in South Africa and my greenhouse temperatures are typically 0 – 25°C. Typically I don’t tranplant at this time but were gifted some Verdigris, Cesky Granat, White Susan and Split Pea cultivars recently that had to be potted up.

That begged the question. Should I leave them dry or water them. Not better way than to try different approaches on expendable plants – in this instance Lithops dorothea. A few plants were potted up in 10cm pots. One was bottom watered lightly, on was soaked to satuaration and the other one was left dry. Transplant date was 22 June 2020

Wihtin a week one could determine already that the plants in the satuarated pot started to root. This can be inferred from the resistance offered when lightly tugging them upwards.

Update: 29 July 2020: No signs of stacking on any plants. The pot that has been satuarated received two more drenchings and appear to have rooted well

Will keep providing updates on progress.
