Mesembs in June (Southern Hemisphere)

Except for Rubra flowering, very little is happening. Or let’s say a lot is happening but does not require my help. This post shows new growers what to expect from splitting in winter, what a reasonable substrate looks like and how flush plants grow when providing adequate light.

The Rebel of the Genus Lithops

Lithops terricolor (Prins Albert form) appears to be a real rebel. Not only does it germinate without grow lights and without cotton, but it grows in non-pumice soil together with lesser (sarcasm alert) genera like split rocks and Glottiphyllum . It even receives top water (aka rain) in summer, fall, winter and autumn during which the plant itself becomes wet.
